About Kristyan Sarkis
If you’ve been to the Louvre Abu Dhabi, you’ve seen his custom designed Arabic typeface he created for the museum. Graduating from Royal Academy of Art, in The Hague and since launching his own design studio in the Netherlands, as well as co-founding TBTQ Arabic, a type foundry specializing in Arabic fonts. He has since helped launch “Arabic Type Design- Beirut” the first educational program dedicated to the subject. His passion for Arabic Type has won him the awards in Typographic Excellence in 2011, 2012, 2016 and 2017.
Kristyan will speak about the division between those who believe Arabic type should stay as close as possible to its calligraphic form and those who believe in a clear cut between the two disciplines and what are some of the solutions he’s discovered in his own journey seeking contemporary expressions of the Arabic script through his type design projects which include but not limited to; The Louvre Abu Dhabi and Mozilla custom typefaces.
