About Jun Kamei

Using nature as inspiration for innovation and emulation, Jun Kamei, a Biomimicry designer has designed futuristic, underwater breathing suits (Amphibio) that actually allow you to breath underwater, but look good doing it, clothing that can receive and understand implicit thought and pearls made with human breath. Designing for the future, but fascinated with the surrounding world, Jun’s passion for Nature’s hidden designs are reflected in his work, his frequent TED talks and his photography.

Jun will discuss how “Design” only dates for a few centuries, while living organisms found in Nature have developed solutions to multiple challenges through the process of evolution. Talking about his creative journey between Nature, science, art, design and engineering.

Prototype for the Future

Hosted by: Jun Kamei

Come back-cast, as well as future-cast, with the biomimicry master designer Jun Kamei. In this workshop, you will be prompted to imagine a future scenario you’d like, or do not want to see happening (future-cast). Groups will come up with a potential environmental problem (like water becomes undrinkable), or an ideal future world. They will then think of ways to enact or prevent that scenario from happening (back-cast). In groups, participants will have to design and prototype a product for this future. If you’re interested in looking at solutions to upcoming issues, or how to make the future a place you’d like to live in, this workshop is for you!
