Shuya Gong

Senior Designer

IDEO CoLab

Shuya Gong is a senior designer at IDEO CoLab. With a background in mechanical engineering and venture design from Harvard, she prototypes the future with member companies at the CoLab by exploring how emerging technologies catalyze systemic change. Shuya is an instructor and Design Innovation Fellow at Harvard University School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, and has collaborated with the likes of Target, H&M, Nasdaq, Fidelity on projects spanning the future of food, insurance, fashion, finance, and more. Talk to her about living life without plastic, rapid prototyping, and the dystopian (and utopian!) ways technology might change our daily lives.

Shuya Gong’s talk will address the question of how to design for users that don’t yet exist. Come and find out how to prototype with technology still in it’s evolution, get continuously inspired to design for an inclusive future, while still keeping a human-centered process.

About Online Workshop

As a designer constantly searching for inspiration, you’ve probably experienced the Pinterest Singularity. It's that moment when you look around you and everything seems… so similar. Our favorite digital platforms when seeking inspiration, like Instagram and Pinterest, are controlled by algorithms that serve up exactly what we want to see. We end up getting stuck in a bubble of content. But what if we could be inspired by the things that don’t yet exist?

In this hands-on session, you’ll experiment with Artificial Intelligence (AI) to create starting points for the creative process that have never existed before, and explore the potential of human-machine collaboration in your creative process.

Key Takeaways

  • Be inspired by AI created content
  • Get hands-on experience creating a prototype
  • Embrace machine automation in your workflow
  • Learn a generative design platform
  • Explore the role emerging technologies play in the design process
